The new process of revalidation with the NMC for nurses and midwives is now almost one year on with many nurses having successfully completed the process but many yet to do so.

Revalidation replaced PREP requirements and is the process that allows you to maintain your NMC registration.

It is all about demonstrating that you understand the Code and use the Code to influence your everyday practise. It is designed to ensure that you are practising safely and effectively and that you are keeping up to date.

Every three years you will be asked to demonstrate that you have met the minimum number of practice hours and that you have kept up to date with your professional development.

To revalidate you must have completed the following:

450 practice hours;
35 hours of continuing professional development;
5 pieces of practice related feedback;
5 written reflective accounts;
Evidence of reflective discussion;
Declaration of health and character;
Evidence of indemnity insurance in place;
Confirmation sighed by your confirmer.

The NMC have developed helpful guidance, tools and forms but many nurses and midwives are finding the process daunting.

If you have any issues with refusal of re-registration based on incomplete or unacceptable revalidation NMC defence barristers can help.
